Former Sites of Chairman Mao Delivering a Speech in Guidong

Chairman Mao visited Gudong twice in 1928, the first time lasted from March 28 to April 4, and he spent 8 days there to support the Xiangnan Uprising led by Zhude. The second time was from August 19 to 25, he and his army (3rd battalion, 31st regiment of Red Army) spent 7 days here to embrace the major detachment of Red Army.

Mao delivered his speech to Guidong people to raise their awareness of revolution work at that time and the two platforms for speech are preserved well nowadays. One is in Shatian and called Shatian Stage, while the other in West Street of the county called Chenhuang Temple Stage.

Sign of Provincial Conservation Historic Relics

Chenhuang Temple, a 3-storeyed building built during the reign of Zhengde, Ming Dynasty (1506-1521), covers an area of 91.58 square meters with 8-meter high.

Mao delivered his speech here in August 19th, 1928 and more than 2,000 people participated. Most of them are from the 28th and 31st regiments of Red Army.

Shatian Stage is a traditional wooden building roofed in grey tiles. It was build in Qing Dynasty.

Shatian Stage

The stage, surrounded by green plants, covers an area of 98 square meters with 1.9 metes high. It looks like a Chinese character "pin". The front part is a theater and the rest are living rooms, the left and right part are dressing rooms.

Wooden Flower on the Window

Mao delivered his speech here in March 31, 1928. These two places witnessed extraordinary history of China and were listed as key units of historic relics under provincial-level protection.
